Here we have some of our Timelines created with Timetoast:

Here we have a timeline of "The second industrial revolution" based on our textbook. In this way we get the students to be able to extract the most relevant information and order it chronologically. With TimeToast we get a visual and clear result, easily customizable.
First of all, the activity is planned, the text is selected and the most important ideas and dates are extracted. Finally, they are introduced in the web page.
Typical problems with this type of activities are some problems the students may find registering themselves on the site (which takes about five to ten minutes with the whole class) but making a kind of general "tutorial" can help to most of the students to understand how to use the site.
The fact of using computers and creating this product makes the students feel more motivated than usual.
The work could be enhanced by asking them to add pictures or look for videos that add to the historical facts mentioned.
Using this tool can make students feel more motivated, integrate different subjects (not only English but also History or Literature) and enhance reading comprehension and work on summarising texts.
